RCCG RAPAC COUNSCELLING & TESTING

HIV Counseling and testing program with FHI/GHAIN began in December 2006 and was targeted towards Married men and women, pregnant women and singles within the Church and its host communities.

As a standard protocol, clients were counseled and tested using the national rapid test algorithm. Those who tested negative were assisted in developing a risk reduction plan, while persons who tested positive are referred to designated treatment centers for follow.

The program was scaled up to Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) in May 2008. It was initiated to reduce to reduce the risk of transmitting HIV among positive pregnant women to their unborn babies during labour, delivery and breastfeeding. Also, counseling on replacement breastfeeding as well as child care information was usually done to enable them make informed decision about their family life.
